This event is fabulous for groups of as small as 25 or large as 250. Each team of 7-10 people designs and constructs a “car” that will carry two people in a race for speed and distance. The wooden base of each car is the same for all teams, but it must be put together, and quality construction is essential. The design of the body requires creativity, group problem solving and “buying decisions” on parts and hardware. Teams also have a choice of paint colors and other items to enhance their car’s design. At the end of the construction phase (about 2+ hours), the race takes place. Two to four cars take the track simultaneously; each is powered by two team members who can push the car a limited distance before letting go. Helmets and pads are provided for safety. The team with the highest combined score for spirit, design, fastest driving time, and distance wins!
