The Outrageous Frog Catapulting Contest is a spirited competition in which teams must design and build catapult devices that will fling bean bag frogs 50 feet toward a target. Catapults are built primarily out of PVC pipe and surgical tubing. Using play money, each team decides what materials and tools to purchase in order to build their catapult. Though the blueprint of a catapult design is available for purchase, teams must decide whether expending cash for these plans is worth it. Brainstorming, testing, and trial and error are all part of this fun event. Teams must also design and sew their own frogs. How aerodynamic they are does make a difference, and there are points for the best-looking frogs. Another fun variation on this event is “Egg Catapulting”–using real eggs.
